Problem with door closer

I was called yesterday from a chain of retail stores that i'm maintenance tech because they were having issues with the door closer. Basically, the LCN 4040 door closer arm is making some clicking noises and the door doesn't latch consistently. It also slams shut instead of smooth closing. I already re-secured the fasteners and checked for any hydraulic fluid loss but i haven't noticed any. i also re-adjusted the tension but the door is still inconsistent with latching. Has anyone encountered a problem like this one? Do you have any suggestions?

Had a similar issue once, I ended up replacing the arm altogether and that fixed it. It could be the valves sticking or internal seals wearing out and sometimes a rebuild kit does the trick if adjustment doesn't help.

Try resetting the valves completely and dialing them back in, but if that doesn't fix it, you're probably looking at replacing the closer or just the arm.

Yeah, I've seen that happen, clicking and slamming usually point to internal valve wear or a blown seal, even if fluid loss isn't obvious...it might be time to rebuild or replace it.

Any tips about maintenance to have it last longer? Not sure when was this one installed.
