Found an old lock that totally humbled me

Not a locksmith, just someone who appreciates old mechanical things and I ran into a lock that completely threw me the other day. The summer we went to "visit grandma", it was on a door in my grandma's attic, it looked ancient, had one of those big skeleton keyholes, and of course, no key in sight, so I had the idea to try to see if I could get it open just out of curiosity (and because I'm stubborn). Tried some improvised tools, even tried a bump key I had lying around please don't ask why. Nothing worked. I ended up spending over an hour messing with it before giving up and deciding to just take the hinges off the door.
After I got it open though, I took the lock apart and turns out it had a ridiculously simple mechanism and I was overthinking the whole thing. Felt a little dumb, not gonna lie.

Totally relatable... Old locks can really throw you off sometimes the simplest mechanisms are the trickiest because we expect them to be more complex. Been there, overthought it and felt silly after cracking it open. Still it's all part of the fun if you love old mechanical stuff haha.

What kind of mechanism did it turn out to be, just a basic lever or warded lock? I've definitely been there, overthinking something that ends up being hilariously simple!
